The popularity of Drama at Tamworth High School is clearly evident in the number of students choosing it as an elective in Years 9 - 12. In recent years there has been a growth of student numbers choosing Drama.
A feature of Drama at Tamworth High School is the air conditioned mini-theatre which is equipped with a curtained stage, wings and a mixer-controlled theatrical lighting system making the Drama experience so much more exciting and authentic for students.

In Years 9 - 10 the foundations are established developing in students the knowledge and understanding of the elements of performance combined with a strong emphasis on practical activities to learn stagecraft skills. Students also learn about the history of Drama in conjunction with studying closely a particular period. In recent years a multi-cultural emphasis has been incorporated. Highlights of the junior years include making masks, individual and group performances, script writing, seeing touring productions and participating in workshops.

The senior Drama course continues the development of students' understanding and knowledge of the elements of performance as well as improving students' skills in all aspects of the syllabus. Having a mini-theatre in which to present performances is a huge asset for senior students especially when performing both group and individual performances for the HSC examiners in year 12.
A highlight each year is the Senior Drama Workshop hosted by Tamworth High School which attracts over 120 senor drama students from the North West area and offers workshops run by HSC markers, Drama tutors and teachers from Sydney. Workshops include: physical drama, improvisation, voice production, group performances, individual projects and writing essays for the written exam.
