Mathematics
THS mathematics operates according to school systems. There are two reports based on outcome tests held during the year.
Homework is given regularly but each teacher determines the timing and amount.
Equipment: All students are asked to have a ruler, pen, pencil, and the calculator should be a scientific type. The canteen sells the appropriate model. These should be brought in most lessons.
Year 7-8:
All students follow the same work program and thelevel of work is determined by the needs of the student.
Years 9-10:
There are 3 courses in Year 9 and 10.
Advanced is a course leading to higher education studies including University Mathematics. It is a difficult and demanding course and only the most confident and able students should attempt it.
Intermediate Mathematics also leads to higher education studies including University Mathematics but only a few students at this level are capable of future study at higher levels.
Standard mathematics is a course for students who’s Mathematics is not at a high level and aims to bolster confidence for further study.
Years 11-12:
Mathematics and Mathematics ExtensionThese are studied by only the ablest of students; usually advanced students or the best intermediate students select these courses.
General Mathematics
This is a course allowing students to further enhance their knowledge of Mathematics but does not prepare students for tertiary study in Mathematics.
