English

The English courses from Years 7 to 12 are made up of units if work which feature a wide range of activities, strategies and content to cater for all the abilities and need of students at Tamworth High School. Programs and reporting are based on syllabus outcomes and focus on both what students do as well as what they know.
Students at Tamworth High School benefit from its strong tradition of involving them in extra-curricula activities relevant to English. These include: a variety of competitions, debating, public speaking, workshops with visiting authors and participation in major school productions.

Results in ELLA, School Certificate and Higher School Certificate provide evidence of students achieving their potential, with some outstanding results achieved each year. In the 2001 HSC, students achieved eight Band 6 results in English. A Macintosh computer laboratory is being established in 2002 which will be used primarily used by English classes. This will not only enhance the opportunity for students to use technology in general but will specificantly help improve students' media skills in print publishing and video production. A digital video camera has also been purchased by the English faculty to assist in this.
